Chapter 6 Outline

 Chapter 6

  1. Daniel in the Den of Lions
    1. Darius was pleased to appoint 120 satraps to rule throughout the kingdom
      1. He had 3 administrators rule over them
      2. Daniel was 1 of the 3
      3. The satraps were accountable to them so the king might not suffer loss
    2. Daniel
      1. distinguished himself among the administrators & satraps
        1. exceptional qualities - that the king planned to set him over all
    3. Administrators & Satraps
      1. tried to find issues with Daniel's conduct of government affairs 
      2. They could find no corruption because he was trustworthy, not corrupt or negligent.
      3. They decided they could find nothing unless it was something to with the law of his God.
      4. They went as a group to the king
        1. the royal administrators, prefects, satraps, advisers and governors
        2. they agreed king should issue an edict & enforce the decree
          1. anyone who prays to any god or human, except to the king, during the next 30 days was to be thrown into the lions den.
          2. they requested it in writing so it could not be altered or repealed
    4. King Darius
      1. agreed to edict and put in writing.
    5. Daniel
      1. learned of published decree
      2. went home to his upstairs room by the window open to Jerusalem
      3. 3x a day he got on knees and prayed
        1. giving thanks to God
        2. just as he had always done
    6. The group 
      1. found Daniel praying and asking God for help
      2. went to king and spoke of his royal decree
    7. King Darius
      1. yes the decree stands and cannot be repealed
    8. The group
      1. told the king about Daniel
        1. one of the exiles from Judah
        2. pays no attention to you or the decree in writing
        3. He prays 3x a day
    9. King Darius
      1. greatly distressed
      2. determined to rescue Daniel
      3. Made every effort until sundown to save him
    10. The group
      1. went to King and reminded him that according to the law of the Medes and Persians no decree or edict that the king issues can be changed.
    11. King Darius
      1. gave the order for Daniel to be thrown into the lions' den
      2. said to Daniel "May your God, whom you serve continually, rescue you"
    12. Then
      1. a stone was placed over mouth of lions den
      2. the king sealed it with his signet ring AND with rings of his nobles
      3. the king returned to palace
        1. no eating
        2. no entertainment
        3. he could not sleep
        4. at first down, hurried to den
        5. as he came near he called out to Daniel in an anguished voice
          1. "Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you serve continually, been able to rescue you from the lions?:
      4. Daniel answered
        1. "May the king live forever
        2. God sent his angel to shut the mouths' of the lions
        3. the lions did not hurt me because I was found innocent in his sight,
        4. Nor have I ever done any wrong before you, Your Majesty"
      5. The King 
        1. was overjoyed
        2. gave orders to life Daniel out of den
          1. no wounds on Daniel because he had trusted God
        3. King commanded false accusers to be thrown in lions' den
          1. along with their wives and children
          2. before hit floor - lions overpowered them.
        4. Wrote to all in province
          1. everyone must fear and reverence the God of Daniel
          2. He is the living God
          3. He endures forever
          4. His Kingdom will not be destroyed
          5. His dominion will never end.
          6. He rescues and saves
          7. He performs signs and wonders
          8. He has rescued Daniel from the lions
    13. So Daniel prospered during the reign of Darius AND the reign of Cyrus the Persian
