Chapter 6
- Daniel in the Den of Lions
- Darius was pleased to appoint 120 satraps to rule throughout the kingdom
- He had 3 administrators rule over them
- Daniel was 1 of the 3
- The satraps were accountable to them so the king might not suffer loss
- Daniel
- distinguished himself among the administrators & satraps
- exceptional qualities - that the king planned to set him over all
- Administrators & Satraps
- tried to find issues with Daniel's conduct of government affairs
- They could find no corruption because he was trustworthy, not corrupt or negligent.
- They decided they could find nothing unless it was something to with the law of his God.
- They went as a group to the king
- the royal administrators, prefects, satraps, advisers and governors
- they agreed king should issue an edict & enforce the decree
- anyone who prays to any god or human, except to the king, during the next 30 days was to be thrown into the lions den.
- they requested it in writing so it could not be altered or repealed
- King Darius
- agreed to edict and put in writing.
- Daniel
- learned of published decree
- went home to his upstairs room by the window open to Jerusalem
- 3x a day he got on knees and prayed
- giving thanks to God
- just as he had always done
- The group
- found Daniel praying and asking God for help
- went to king and spoke of his royal decree
- King Darius
- yes the decree stands and cannot be repealed
- The group
- told the king about Daniel
- one of the exiles from Judah
- pays no attention to you or the decree in writing
- He prays 3x a day
- King Darius
- greatly distressed
- determined to rescue Daniel
- Made every effort until sundown to save him
- The group
- went to King and reminded him that according to the law of the Medes and Persians no decree or edict that the king issues can be changed.
- King Darius
- gave the order for Daniel to be thrown into the lions' den
- said to Daniel "May your God, whom you serve continually, rescue you"
- Then
- a stone was placed over mouth of lions den
- the king sealed it with his signet ring AND with rings of his nobles
- the king returned to palace
- no eating
- no entertainment
- he could not sleep
- at first down, hurried to den
- as he came near he called out to Daniel in an anguished voice
- "Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you serve continually, been able to rescue you from the lions?:
- Daniel answered
- "May the king live forever
- God sent his angel to shut the mouths' of the lions
- the lions did not hurt me because I was found innocent in his sight,
- Nor have I ever done any wrong before you, Your Majesty"
- The King
- was overjoyed
- gave orders to life Daniel out of den
- no wounds on Daniel because he had trusted God
- King commanded false accusers to be thrown in lions' den
- along with their wives and children
- before hit floor - lions overpowered them.
- Wrote to all in province
- everyone must fear and reverence the God of Daniel
- He is the living God
- He endures forever
- His Kingdom will not be destroyed
- His dominion will never end.
- He rescues and saves
- He performs signs and wonders
- He has rescued Daniel from the lions
- So Daniel prospered during the reign of Darius AND the reign of Cyrus the Persian
