    9. Arioch goes out to put to death the wise men of Babylon

22He reveals deep and hidden things;
he knows what lies in darkness,
and light dwells with him.

You have given me wisdom and power,
you have made known to me what we asked of you,
you have made known to us the dream of the king.”

    4. Daniel replies:
      1. No one can explain this mystery BUT
      2. there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries.
      3. God has shown King Nebuchadnezzar what will happen in days to come
      4. Daniel tells the dream.....Your dream and visions are these:
        1. You were lying there and thinking on things to come and the revealer of mysteries showed you what is going to happen.
        2. this mystery has been revealed to me so you can know and understand (not because of me or my wisdom)
          1. NOTE:  I like that Daniel was used because he prayed to God for answers and not because he was such a wise, famous man)
        3. You saw a large statue
          1. enormous, dazzling, awesome
          2. Head of pure gold

          5. Legs of Iron
          6. Feet of partly iron and partly baked clay
        4. While watching - a rock was cut out (not by human hands) and it struck the statue on its feet of iron & clay and smashed them
        5. Then the iron, clay, bronze, silver and gold were broken to pieces -
          1. like chaff on a threshing floor in summer
          2. the wind swept them away without a trace
        6. The rock (that struck the statue) became a huge mountain that filled the whole earth.
      5. Daniel tells the interpretation
        1. Gold: You are king of kings
          1. God has given you dominion, power, might & glory

          1. strong as iron - for it breaks and smashes everything
          2. it will crush and break all the others
        5. Clay & Iron: a divided kingdom
          1. the feet & toes
          2. some strength of iron
          3. will be partly strong and partly brittle
          4. iron not mix with clay just like the people will be a mixture and not remain united
        6. In the time of those kings
          1. God will set up a kingdom
            1. that will never be destroyed
            2. not be left to another people
            3. it will crush all those kingdoms and bring them to an end
            4. it will endure forever
        7. "This is the meaning of the vision of the rock cut out of a mountain, but not by human hands a rock that broke the iron, bronze, clay silver and gold to pieces

    1. King Nebuchadnezzar besieged Jerusalem during the 3rd year of Jehoiakim king of Judah
      1. NOTE: Jehoiakim was 18th King of Judah from 609 to 598 BC sp the 3rd year of his reign would be 606 BC?

        1. official told Daniel he was afraid of king who ordered the food & drink and would see them looking worse then the others.
      3. Daniel proposed a test
        1. 10 days  of vegetables and water
        2. then compare appearance to others
      4. At end of 10 days looked healthier & better nourished so guard let them continue.

    1. God gave knowledge & understanding of all kinds
    2. Daniel could understand visions & dreams of all kinds
    3. at the end of the time, they were presented to Nebuchadnezzar
    4. The king talked w/them and found non equal - so they entered the king's service.
    5. In every matter of wisdom & understanding they were 10 X better than all the magicians & enchanters in his whole kingdom
    6. Daniel remained their until the first year of King Cyrus
      1. Cyrus the Great was king of Babylon 539-530 BC - so this means Daniel was in Babylon until 539 BC?

My time notes - Daniel
606 BC is year taken captive
3 years of training and then chosen into kings service
539 BC is when he was no longer in Babylon - which I think means he died.
- google estimated Daniel lived 620 - 538 BC = 82 years

- so if born in 620 then he was about 14 when he was taken captive?
- finished training at age 17?
- lived in Babylon until he was 82?
